We are happy to have launched Flex Block at Lake Region after careful planning and preparation designed to respond to student's needs. Flex Block will meet Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 to 1:30, giving students opportunities to build their skills and to connect with mentor teachers in their areas of interest. Some students will receive targeted support in building skills in reading, writing, or mathematics. Others will be "called back" by their teachers to revise essays, complete missing assignments, redo tests, clear up confusion on a given topic, or practice a new skill that proves challenging. Students can also choose, themselves, to sit with teachers to review information or practice skills with which they could use additional help. Those students who have not been called back can choose from a wide variety of enrichment activities. They might sharpen their debate skills, engage in research, or prepare for a science fair, for instance, meeting with teachers who can support them in extending their skills. We are excited about adding this to the menu of student supports at Lake Region and look forward to celebrating both increases in student achievement and students' engagement in enriching extensions of their learning.
Note: This is a required component of the school day at Lake Region as we move forward. Students are expected to attend Flex Block every day, participating in assigned activities as necessary and engaging in enrichment activities. Those students with Temporary Dismissals are expected to return to campus in time for Flex Block, and those students with Early Dismissals are expected to remain on campus in order to benefit from this opportunity.
