Last week, BCS completed its final week of winter activities! Approximately 70 BCS students completed their final week of lessons at Burke Mountain. We had many students learning to ski/ride for the very first time and it was such a joy to see the skills start to "click." Every year, it is a great way for students to stay active in the cold months and remember that challenging ourselves and taking care of our minds and bodies is always important-no matter the time of year! So many students maintained a safe, respectful, and responsible attitude on the mountain and we received many successful "report cards" for students moving up in their lesson abilities. Though the season is over for school lessons, students' passes continue to provide them with access to Burke Mountain lifts until their season ends in April.
At school, students participated in a wide variety of choice activities ranging from Task Master to Tinkering. Students got to sign up for clubs that aligned with their interests. Many students got to be creative and enjoy drawing and crafts. This was a great way to continue building community between different grade levels and try out new things!

In case you missed it, BCS was highlighted on WCAX for our Learning the Ropes assembly. A big THANK YOU to our Physical Education teacher, Mrs. Booth, for organizing this amazing event. The students had such an awesome time seeing and meeting champions in their field and were so inspired by the work of these individuals. See the news clip here:

After weeks of in-class preparations, Brownington Bears participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee today! It was a major challenge that six stupendous spellers stepped up to. Students in the audience supported their peers as they tackled various rounds of difficult spelling words. A huge thank you to Mrs. Armstrong, our school librarian, for organizing this event and helping us celebrate awesome academic achievements. Thank you to parents and families who were able to join us as judges and audience members, too!! After a very tight final round between two fifth graders, Carter and Hank, Hank was our school's spelling bee champion! Congrats, Hank! This was such a great way for students to broaden their vocabularies and challenge their spelling skills, we are excited to see how these efforts continue through the end of our school year!

8th graders of BCS are seeking Ring Pop donations for their annual Valentine's Day Ring Pop Fundraiser. If you are able to send in a box or a few, this will help them work toward their goals for the end of year trip! Each year, they have been able to sell hundreds of ring pops. Shout out to the 8th graders who are helping to organize these events and make a difference for their class.
