PHYSICAL EDUCATION

All students of Lake Region are required to successfully complete Entry Physical Education for one credit plus Lifetime Physical Education for a half credit. Entry Physical Education is designed for freshman and sophomores. Juniors and seniors that have successfully completed Entry are required to successfully complete two quarters or one semester of Lifetime Physical Education.

001 Entry Physical Education 1 Credit

This is a required one-year course offering a wide variety of teaching units. The curriculum includes team play, dual sports, single challenges, quarterly fitness assessments for the purpose of identifying individual strenghts and weaknesses. There is also a health component within the curriculum. Most units are ten teaching days where students learn basic skills, drills and knowledge of each unit. Students are then tested on rules, strategies and concepts.

003 Life-Time Physical Education 1/2 Credit

Lifetime is for juniors and seniors that have successfully completed Entry Physical Education (001). Juniors or seniors are required to complete successfully two nine week quarters or one eighteen week semester of Lifetime. The Lifetime activities include archery, tennis, golf, orienteering, snow shoeing, x-c skiing, badminton, weights, CPR, and dance depending on student quarterly choice. Each activity will focus on a heart rate monitoring program for lifetime fitness. Students move to the beat of their own heart and learn about personal fitness through authentic assessments. Three activities per quarter are offered. The integrated health component includes a follow-up of Entry 001. The Lifetime curriculum is directed by Gerry Cahill.
