FOREIGN LANGUAGES

French

301 French I 1 Credit

French I is designed to introduce you to the language and cultures of the Francophone world. Through conversation, writing, reading and listening activities, you will become proficient in carrying on basic conversations. These conversations include: greeting people; telling where you are from; describing your town; describing your likes, dislikes and preferences; telling what you do for fun at different times of the year; getting around in a French-speaking country; ordering food; giving and understanding directions; getting along in a French family; describing your house and the rooms in it; talking about going to the movies; inviting, accepting and rejecting invitations.

In French I, aspects of French history, the city of Paris, and the culture of Quebec are explored through hands-on, student-centered projects. Students also create presentations on different aspects of the history of the Francophone world. Art, music and fun and games are all part of the French I learning experience.

Field trips are an integral part of French at Lake Region. Trips to Montreal, Quebec City and Paris are organized on a continuing basis. Burlington and St. Johnsbury often offer French films and concerts. Artists-in-residence provide us with various learning opportunities, such as: jazz, Zydeco music, stained-glass production, mime, ballet, and much more! Foreign Language Week is an annual week-long "in-school field trip," with activities and contests which promote foreign languages at Lake Region.

Learning a new language is an exciting possibility at Lake Region. French I, II, III and IV are offered every year. Look for an update on what French II has to offer you when you sign up for classes next year.
