Reference Books; Library Catalog (Destiny); Databases; Websites, Works Cited, Rubric for Research

Although you will not find individual job titles listed when using the library catalog, Destiny, for the following reference books, you should be sure to look at the index in each of the following titles for your job:

Reference books:

  • Career Discovery Encyclopedia
  • Career Information Center
  • Encyclopedia of Careers & Vocational Guidance

Don't forget that some jobs have synonyms for the job titles:

  • doctor = physician
  • teacher = eductor
  • beautician = cosmetologist
  • cook = culinary arts = chef
  • etc.

Library Catalog

Use the library catalog, Destiny, to locate indivitual titles about your selected career.

Databases

Use the library's databases for access to reliable resources:

  • Ferguson's Career Guidance Center (ask librarian for user name & password)
  • Infotrac (ask librarian for user name & password)
  • Vermont On-Line Library (ask librarian for user name & password)
  • Guidance Central
    • Click on VTGuidance Central in the Quick Reference box.
    • Select HIGH SCHOOL
    • If you are a new user, click on Create a new portfolio and complete the registration page. When you get to the Portfolio Name and Password section, use someting you will remember. You will use this information to log into your portfolio in the future.
    • When you are a returning user, enter your Portfolio Name and Password, and click on go.
