Pathfinder for Environmental Unit: Nature Interpretation
At parks and nature preserves there are trails that
people can walk and learn about the local and regional communities
and ecological information. There might be a brochure and trail map
that people can walk and look at features of the ecosystems, organisms
and or ecology. Sometimes there are nature stations where the information
can be displayed about the importance of certain species of plants
to wildllife, health or their interesting biology.
In this case, students are required to plan, research
and develop their own nature interpretation station that will be viewed
and hopefully enjoyed by the public that visits Lake Region's new
recreational trail system. Your research should take you away from
the familiarity of white-tailed deer or sugar maple tree. You will
want to research something ecologically or biologically unique in
the northern temperate forest. Below are some topics to help get you
started. Or, students can come up with their own topic which must
be approved.
| symbiotic relationships |
nutrient cycling |
acid rain on the forest |
| microanimals in the science pond |
invertebrate community in leaf litter |
