SENIOR YEAR

Students attending two/four year College/University

 

1.         Seniors should make individual appointments with Mr. Chamberlin September -- October.

2.         Pass out recommendation sheets (green Senior Information/Recommendation Request form available in Guidance Office) to teachers of your choice and ask them to write a recommendation on your behalf. Send email requests to teachers from your Family Connections account. (It is your responsibility to follow up to ensure that your recommendations have been sent by your teachers.)  

3.         Complete a Transcript Request Form and submit it to the Guidance Office. This form is used to indicate the colleges you will apply to. Colleges you are applying to must also be listed in your Family Connections account. Transcripts are sent electronically to schools that accept electronic submissions and we track the schools that you have applied to in our online system.

4.         Make sure to submit your official S.A.T. or A.C.T. scores to colleges to which you are applying.  Double-check S.A.T. II requirements for the specific colleges you are applying to.  The SAT fall test dates are November 4th(registration deadline is October 5th) and December 2nd  (registration deadline is November 2nd).  The ACT fall test dates are October 28th (registration deadline is September 22nd) and December 9th (registration deadline is Nov. 3rd).  Registration forms are available in the Guidance Office.

5.         Check to see if any of the colleges to which you are applying require a Financial Aid Profile to be sent.

6.         Students must give Mr. Chamberlin at least two weeks’ notice to have him write a letter of recommendation to be included with the transcript.

7.         Paying for College – Scholarship & Financial Aid - Night for parents and students is Tuesday, September 19th at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Region Union High School in the Library.

8.         Be prepared to get your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) completed online by early October.  Check in the Guidance Office for FAFSA information. October filing date is a change from previous years.

9.         Check the Scholarship box in the Guidance Office for State and National Scholarships, updated weekly as new scholarships arrive. Local scholarships packet will be mailed to students in February.

10.       The Guidance Office keeps a file on each senior to track your college admissions and career planning progress. See Mr. Chamberlin or Mrs. King for location of file cabinet.

11.       MEETING ALL DEADLINES FOR APPLICATIONS (College Admissions, Financial Aid, Scholarships) IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT!
